History

The Burlington Clothes Exchange was born in 2001, when a group of 15 fashion conscious, community minded women got together to swap the clothes they once loved, but rarely ever wore. At that first event, the women recognized the opportunity to turn the gathering into a force for social change.

Each year, more women came to swap and more money was raised. In 2006, img_2428.jpgThe Clothes Exchange outgrew the living room where it first began and moved to its new home, Union Station. In 2009, 500 women shopped The Burlington Clothes Exchange and helped to raise a record $55,000.

Nine years years and 10 events later, The Burlington Clothes Exchange has become one of the most well-attended, successful and fun annual fundraising events in the Burlington, Vermont community and over the years, has raised nearly $210,000 for programs working to improve the lives of women in Vermont.

The quality of the merchandise we sell is the key to our success. Remember, if you wouldn't let your best friend wear it, we probably don’t want it. On behalf of our beneficiary organization, we accept donations of gently worn, fashionable clothing and accessories and new clothing from retail partners.
