So, am I shopping or making a charitable contribution?

Actually, you’re doing both. You are shopping and will hopefully leave the event with a few great finds. All of the items are priced. Think of the prices as a suggested minimum donation.

What types of clothes do you accept?


We accept new or gently worn, clean, stylish women’s clothing, coats and accessories, including shoes, belts, hats, purses, bags, and jewelry. Maternity clothes are welcome too. Torn, soiled and dated clothing is not accepted. It’s important that the items we collect are in good condition and good quality. Remember, if you wouldn’t let your best friend wear it, we probably would not want it!

What do you do with the clothes you don’t keep?

All items that don’t make the cut are donated to charitable organizations.

What happens to the proceeds generated from the sale of donated goods?

Every dollar raised at The Clothes Exchange will be donated to the designated beneficiary and will be used to support nonprofit programs aimed to benefit women and children.

Can I claim a deduction for the items I donate?

If you itemize deductions on your federal tax return, you are entitled to claim a charitable deduction for your Clothes Exchange donations.

To determine the value of the items you donate, we recommend talking with a tax advisor or consulting a reference such as Goodwill’s guide to assessing market values for used goods at www.goodwillpromo.org.

Is my “shopping donation” tax deductible?

If you make a contribution to The Clothes Exchange that is greater than the value of your purchases, you may claim a deduction of the difference.

How does my business become a sponsor?

If your business is interested in making an in-kind or cash contribution, please contact theclothesexchange@gmail.com. We’d love to help you figure out the best way for your business to get involved.

Can I donate the day-of the event?

No, clothes will not be accepted on the day of The Clothes Exchange.   See drop off schedule.

Can I donate clothing without buying and buy with out donating?

Absolutely!

Can I just give a cash donation to support The Clothes Exchange?

Definitely, contributions are welcome anytime, before, during and after the event. All contributions are tax-deductible.

Can I utilize my company’s matching gift program to maximize my donation?

Yes, if your company has a Matching Gifts Program, you may be able to double any financial contribution that you give to The Clothes Exchange. Check with your company’s HR department to find about if you can take advantage of this benefit.

How can I start my own Clothes Exchange in my hometown?

If you are interested in hosting your own Clothes Exchange, contact us at theclothesexchange@gmail.com. We’d love to talk with you about launching your own Clothes Exchange.



Can I just give a cash donation?

Yes!

Do you have to be present to win the raffle?

No, if you are one of the lucky winners, we’ll contact you. Prizes for the 2008 Clothes Exchange raffle include a $500 gift certificate to Sweet Lady Jane, a women’s snowboard form Burton, a $250 gift certificate to Mirror, Mirror and a Yoga Package from Evolution Physical Therapy and Yoga valued at $250.

What’s Early Shopping?

Donate $100 or more to The Clothes Exchange Beneficiary and get on the guest list to Shop Early. Early shopping spaces are limited.
